They are a 54 resident program whose main affiliates are Sentara Norfolk General Hospital/Sentara Heart Hospital (a level 1 trauma center and quaternary referral center with over 600 beds) as well as the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (with less than 50 beds) in Hampton, Virginia.

Chief year position opening at UIC Peoria

22/01/2025- One Chief Year residency position at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. The hospital is a tertiary care hospital with 650 beds and also sponsors ACGME accredited fellowships in Cardiology, GI, Pulmonary/Critical Care, and Hospice/Palliative Care.  

They also have started an oncology hospitalist fellowship, are grateful for a multi-million dollar clinical simulation center, and overall have a great group of residents and faculty.

Responsibilities:

Patient Care

Serve as hospitalist for not more than 12 weeks per year on the University Hospitalist and Teaching Service (UHATS).

  • Perform or supervise the performance of patient care services to include hospital admission orders, history-physical examinations and reports, daily evaluations, daily progress notes, discharge evaluations, and discharge summaries.
  • Perform or supervise the performance of procedures on patients.  Procedures are defined as those appropriate for a general internal medicine physician according to privileges granted by the hospital
  • Participate in university and/or hospital committees as it pertains to chief resident interest.
  • Resident/Student Education
  • Supervise residents in the resident outpatient clinic (average one or two half-days per month).
  • Participate in resident morning report daily
  • Prepare and lead morning report one time per month.
  • Provide up 4-6 lectures per year to residents.
  • Possibly provide up to 1-2 lectures quarterly to third year medical students.
  • Possibly provide up to 1-2 hours of lecture annually to fourth year medical students.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary simulation sessions for residents and students
  • Conduct direct observations of residents as assigned by the program director
  • Research
  • Opportunity to dedicate time for personal research/scholarly activity at the discretion of the Program Director
  • Administrative
  • Prepare monthly schedules for resident teaching services. Process and reconcile requests for changes in resident schedules.  Arrange coverage on resident services to prevent gaps in coverage due to planned or unplanned resident absences.
  • Participate in resident program leadership meetings, faculty meetings, curriculum meetings, recruiting meetings, and Clinical Competence Committee meetings.
  • Lead the Chief Resident’s meeting of residents approximately every other month.
  • Participate in resident recruitment including orientation sessions for applicants on the days of interviews.
  • Perform on-call duties for resident program administrative issues daily with the following exceptions:  Administrative on-call duties are shared by the Chief Residents and/or the Program Leadership on weekends and holidays.  Administrative on-call duties are excused on days of approved vacation, approved leave, or sick leave.
  • Investigate and assist in resolving concerns or complaints raised by or involving resident physicians.
  • Collaborate with the responsible individuals in other departments on interdepartmental matters pertaining to resident scheduling and education.
  • Monitor resident attendance at conferences and prepare conference attendance reports for the Program Director.
  • Serve as first-line resource to resident physicians who require triage because of personal or professional problems, which also includes being available to the residents when necessary.
  • Assist the Program Director and Associate Program Directors with the administrative duties of the residency training program.
